About Del Mar Terrace

Del Mar Terrace is an upscale community in the southeast region of Del Mar, California. This neighborhood has some of the most expensive real estate in the region. Most homes here begin at a million and a half dollars.

Del Mar Terrace is comprised of large estates that reflect Mediterranean and Contemporary architectural styles. Residents enjoy panoramic views of the ocean and landscape. From this location, its only five minutes to the beach by car and the freeway is easily accessible. This community covers the area south of Mango Street and west of Carmel Valley Road. The two main streets that run through this neighborhood are Via Latina and Via Grimaldi.

This community is served by the Del Mar Union School District and the San Dieguito Union High School District. Students may attend highly ranked Del Mar Heights Elementary, Earl Warren Middle School, and Torrey Pines High School. Some families choose private schooling from facilities such as the Winston School of San Diego, St. James Academy, and Del Mar Montessori. There are several colleges within minutes such as MiraCosta College.

This community is situated on the edge of the Torrey Pines State Preserve which is said to be one Southern California’s wildest stretches of land on the coast. Visitors enjoy hiking and exploring as well as imagining the state as it was before settlers. There are several golfing venues in this region like the Grand Golf Club, the Fairbanks Ranch Country Club, and Palacio del Mar Golf Course. This city is also famous for the Del Mar Racetrack and Fairgrounds.

There are several shopping centers, especially along Del Mar Heights Road. You’ll find many restaurants and stores at places like Beachside Del Mar, Del Mar Highlands Town Center, and Piazza Carmel Shopping Center.

Del Mar means “by the sea” or “of the sea” in Spanish. In 1885 Colonel Jacob Taylor bought 338 acres to build a resort for rich and famous residents.
